Tranmere Rovers have announced they have signed defender Matt Hill on a one-year deal.

The 33-year-old joined Rovers on a non-contract basis for the start of the 2014/15 season but has agreed a more permanent deal.

The defender has played five games for Tranmere since his arrival and manager Rob Edwards is pleased with his progress.

The experienced defender has signed on a one-year deal

“Matt has done really well since he’s been here,” said the 41-year-old , speaking to the club’s website. “He’s fitted in really well with the rest of the squad and shown a fantastic attitude.

“He came here and helped us out when we were short of numbers and he fully deserves this contract. He’s a strong defender who gets forward well as we saw on Saturday with his two assists.”

Hill spent two seasons at Sheffield United and played 65 games for The Blades.

The experienced defender has also played for Bristol City, Preston North End, Barnsley and Blackpool.

He becomes Tranmere’s second deadline day signing after the club announced the signing of striker George Donnelly.
