Derby County have completed the signing of German midfielder Tom Koblenz from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim following a successful trial, the East Midlands club have confirmed. Koblenz has featured in both of Derby’s Under 21 Premier League matches so far this season and has clearly impressed the management team enough to secure a 2 year contract.

It is expected that Koblenz will stay in the Derby development squad for the remainder of the season as he continues to mature as a player. The Rams’ youth squad are now in the Premier League so this will be vital in developing players of higher quality. Koblenz joins Ivan Calero, Alfie Santos and Jon Mitchell in joining Derby’s development squad this summer.

It is not yet expected that the German will step into the first team but if he impresses enough there is always the potential to get into the first team mix, as Calero has at the start of this campaign. Derby’s squad looks as good as finished in terms of both ins and outs so it seems as though Koblenz is the last piece of business for the promotion favourites.
