Statistics

The two sides met three times last season. County won in the Johnstone’s Paint Tropghy and at Fratton Park in the league. Pompey beat Newport at Rodney parade 2-1 before the Blues began their incredible end of season run.
Head to Head
Pompey 11 wins,
Newport 10 wins,
6 draws.

Portsmouth

Pompey are returning to League Two action following their Capital One Cup defeat at Stoke during the week.
Andy Awford’s men have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 ahead of tomorrow’s game.
Paul Robinson has just extended his loan from Milwall to January.
Patrick Agyemang and Alex Wynter are both available for selection after returning to training.
But Jack Whatmough (ankle) and Michael Poke (Achilles) are both major doubts.

Newport County

The Exiles are looking to build on their 1-1 draw against Burton last week. The first points of this seasons campaign.
Newport could hand a debut to goalkeeper Joe Day, who has arrived on loan from Peterborough.
But the Welsh side are without Danny Crow (leg) and Rene Howe (thigh), while Aaron O’Connor (leg) and Chris Zebroski (groin) are both doubts.

Match prediction

Pompey at home have been a dominant force so far this season. With the impressive Paul Jones in goal I can’t see Newport scoring. Westcarr is in good form for The Blues and may well add to his Oxford and Northampton goals.
Portsmouth to win 2-0.
