Chesterfield have lodged a bid for Mansfield Town’s talismanic left winger Sam Clucas.

The bid is not yet disclosed and, as of the Thursday morning, Mansfield have not responded the bid from their local rivals.

Clucas was key for The Stags in their return to the Football League last season, scoring eight goals and getting two assists in the 38 games that he played, and at 23 he is seen as a hot prospect in the Football League. The former Hereford man would certainly add some quality to Paul Cook’s starting XI with some Chesterfield supporters touting him as the replacement for Romuald Boco.

Former Burton and Accrington man Boco was signed this summer on non contract terms and has already opened his account with one goal in three games however; given his relative lack of experience outside of League 2 and the fact that he is 29 it is unknown if the man from Benin can perform at the required level for Chesterfield this season. He would certainly provide formidable back up for Clucas, if Clucas signs of course, given that he has played in Europa League qualifiers with Sligo Rovers, has scored 30 goals and assisted 6 in 231 appearances in his career and has 9 goals in 36 appearances for Benin.
