Rotherham’s Richie Smallwood bid accepted

UPDATE: Smallwood will join on an emergency loan deal in order to play in tonight’s game, the permanent deal is likely to go through tomorrow.

Rotherham’s latest bid for Richie Smallwood has been accepted by Middlesbrough, according to the Gazette Live.

Smallwood enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Millers last season and manager Steve Evans has been keen to bring the 23-year-old back on a permanent basis. After rejecting two bids lower than their valuation, Boro have agreed a fee believed to be £175,000 for the midfielder who helped Rotherham be promoted via the play-offs, scoring the winning penalty.

The academy graduate had been offered a new one-year contract with the Teeside club but has seen his opportunity in the first team reduced by the arrival of Adam Clayton. Smallwood made 43 appearances for the club in his four years with the club, scoring on four occasions.
