5 games that could see an upset in the League Cup tonight

Birmingham v Cambridge

Grimsby Town v Cambridge United - FA Trophy Semi Final Second LegThere may be two divisions between these teams but Cambridge will fancy their chances when they travel to St Andrews. At an impressive Championship ground some teams might crumble, but many of Richard Money’s squad will be used to playing on such a big stage. With two Wembley appearances under their belt last season in the play-off and FA Trophy finals the U’s will know what to expect on Tuesday night.

The two teams go into the match after contrasting results in their opening games of the season; Cambridge started their first Football League campaign in nine years with a victory whereas the Blues went down with a whimper against Middlesbrough. That meant we were once again given a dreary interview by Lee Clark, something that rather personifies his team’s performances of late – not even managing a shot on target at the Riverside.

At the same stage last season, Birmingham needed extra time to see off Plymouth Argyle, the team Cambridge defeated on Saturday. The home side may even see this as a chance to rest a couple of players with a tricky game against Brighton at the weekend, meaning the upset could be likely. With the pace of Kwesi Appiah up front the Football League new boys will always have a chance, especially on the break – the Blues can ill afford to take them lightly.

Birmingham – 4/5            Draw – 11/4        Cambridge – 16/5
