Hull City boss McCann hails great team performance against Potters

Hull City manager Grant McCann hailed his side’s all-round team performance as they came from behind to defeat Stoke City 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium this afternoon.

Sam Vokes had fired the visitors into a 1-0 first half lead before the ever-dependable Jarrod Bowen netted twice in the second period for Hull City to help his side turn the scoreline around.

Bowen’s second goal of the afternoon saw the player reach the milestone tally of 15 goals for the season but manager McCann was quick to highlight the fact that his whole team performed well against this afternoon’s opponents.

Speaking in-front of The72 in the post-match press conference, McCann said “I thought it was about the overall team performance today.

“Yes, they were two great goals from Jarrod but every top team in this league has someone like Jarrod.

“The team performance was excellent today.”

Despite falling behind early in the match, The Tigers never looked desperate to get back into the contest, something which impressed McCann.

He added “I thought we were controlled, we conceded early but we didn’t panic.

“After the first 10 minutes, I thought we showed real control and composure about our game.

“We didn’t get that goal in the first half but the message at half-time was to keep that control and to continue to play the way that we were playing.

“It was the first time that we have come back from 1-0 down this season and I am pleased that we are starting to turn our home form around a little bit.”

The result leaves McCann’s men in 12th position in the Sky Bet Championship table while they are now just three points away from a play-off place ahead of Tuesday night’s Yorkshire derby with Leeds United at Elland Road.
