Hull City complete deal to sign Wigan Athletic striker

Hull City have signed striker James Berry from fellow Championship side Wigan Athletic.

The 18-year-old has penned a one-year contract with the Tigers, with an option for a further year.

Berry will initially link up with Hull’s Under-23’s side after the two sides agreed a compensation agreement.

The youngster started his career at Liverpool and rose up through their youth ranks before being released when he was 16.

He was subsequently snapped up by Wigan and has been on their books for two years.

The Tigers’ Under-23’s coach Jon Beale is pleased to have bolstered his attacking options and has told their official club website: “James is a very attack-minded player. He brings pace through the middle as a nine, but can also play a bit deeper as a 10.”

He’s got lots of pace and likes to get in behind people. He’s direct and has an eye for goal. We are pleased to have him in the building and we believe he can add something to the group.”

He added: “I’m excited about the prospect of working with him and furthering his development. We feel there is progress to be made and we are the right club for him to do that.”

Hull have had young players like Daniel Batty, Rob McKenzie and Brandon Fleming breaking into their first team over recent times, could Berry be a name for the Tigers’ fans to watch out for in the future?
