AFC Fylde targeting ex-Derby County, QPR and Blackpool defender

AFC Fylde have made an approach for ex-Derby County, QPR and Blackpool defender Ian Evatt.

The 37-year-old is currently the manager Barrow but is wanted by their fellow National League side, according to a report by the Blackpool Gazette.

Fylde, who missed out on promotion to League Two last season after losing the Play-Off final to Salford City, are in the hunt for a new manager after making a poor start to the campaign. They sacked Dave Challinor on Saturday and have already identified their number one target in Evatt.

Barrow are currently 4th in the league and four points off the top so their manager has a big decision to make. He took over the Bluebirds in June 2018 and has done an impressive job with them.

Evatt was a vastly experienced defender in his playing days and racked up just under 600 appearances in his career.

He started out at Derby County and had stints at Northampton Town and Chesterfield before joining QPR in 2005. He played 28 times for the Hoops prior to his move to Blackpool.

Evatt became a huge player for the Tangerines and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in 2010. He made 210 appearances in his seven seasons at Bloomfield Road and went onto finish his career with a second spell at Chesterfield.

The Barrow boss has made a decent start to life as a manager but faces a big choice now whether to stay at Holker Street or switch to AFC Fylde.
