Speaking to TalkSPORT, Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has heaped praise on loaned in midfielder Conor Gallagher, saying that the gamble on bringing him in has paid off massively.
Charlton Athletic’s strong start to the season has raised a few eyebrows, as has the early season form of loaned in midfielder Conor Gallagher. The youngster joined in the summer transfer from Premier League side Chelsea and in what is his first season of senior football, he has made a great impression.
So far this season, Gallagher has scored four goals and provided two assists in 11 Championship games, playing an important role in Lee Bowyer’s midfield. And his performances have not gone unnoticed, Bowyer has been speaking to TalkSPORT to praise the youngster, saying that his work rate has been “unreal” since he joined the club. He said:
“He’s a good player. For us it was a bit of a gamble; he had never been on loan anywhere before and is only 19 so he’s still learning the game. But he’s hit the ground running.
“Whatever you tell him he does and I just keep encouraging him to get in the box, and things are falling for him at the moment. His willingness and work rate are unreal, so he’s fitted in really well. He’s still learning though – he needs to learn – but he’s been a great addition for us.”
Bowyer, Gallagher and Addicks fans will be hoping the 19-year-old can continue his strong start to the season to help the club keep their place in the top 10 and potentially push on further.
