Burton Albion boss hails his side after AFC Bournemouth triumph

Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough was full of praise for his side after they beat Premier League side AFC Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup last night at the Pirelli Stadium.

Goals from Oliver Sarkic and Nathan Broadhead mean the Brewers have progressed to the next round. The match looked like it could have been abandoned after floodlight failure but both sides were keen on getting the game done.

Burton got to the semi-finals last season and are up to their antics once again.

Their manager Nigel Clough spoke to their official club website after the game: “It was an all-round performance and although they hit the post at the end, I can’t remember too many times they troubled us.”

Kieran O’Hara had to come out and tidy up a couple of times but not much more than that. I think a little bit of frustration showed after Tranmere and in good professionals that comes out in the right way and you saw the hunger and desire last night.”

He added: ” I think even without the drama of the floodlights it would have been a memorable night and performance. It certainly did add to the theatre of it. But Bournemouth were brilliant and like us just wanted to get back on. It was a long night for everyone.”

We were good in every department. It was Oliver Sarkic’s best game so far for us; Liam Boyce was excellent and the two centre halves. You don’t get these results unless everyone is on it and I thought they all were.”
