Stoke City’s Nathan Jones “baffled” by Bristol City loss

Stoke City’s search for a first win of the season continues after losing 2-1 against Bristol City at the Bet365 Stadium yesterday.

The Potters took an early lead through Sam Clucas but a red card to Joe Allen on 12 minutes changed the game and paved the way for the visitors to get back into the game.

A goal from Famara Diedhou and own goal from Tom Edwards meant Lee Johnson’s side left with all three points.

Stoke boss Nathan Jones is under real pressure and told their official club website after the game: “I’m baffled to be honest with you. I really don’t know what you have to do.”

“We work all week on a game plan and start brilliantly – I think in the first 20 minutes we’ve had three glorious opportunities – but then just one decision goes against you and suddenly all of your work blows up which is very frustrating as a manager.”

He continued: “I’m just frustrated today. We put out a side today which was fluent and started brilliantly. We had two or three chances, were brave and got on the ball, but we just don’t give ourselves a chance. The sending off kills us really and puts us on the back foot.”

“They had a lot of possession but didn’t really break us down – they only had one clear-cut chance in the first half as we defended well, but then we go to sleep on the back stick which keeps happening to us. As much as I’m delighted with certain things, we have full backs who are not defending the back stick and doing their jobs which is frustrating.”
