4 Championship Veterans who can still shine this season.

2) Emmerson Boyce – Wigan Athletic

The Aylesbury born Barbadian may well be 34, but that does not mean he has wilted in quality.

I think my reasoning for including Boyce, is best proven by the fact that arguably his most memorable performances have come in the past two seasons.

Two years ago, he was heroic at Wembley, as he captained Wigan Athletic and upset the odds to beat Manchester City and win the FA Cup, which he lifted with Gary Caldwell.  The next season, it was déjà vu. This time Wigan ran out 2-1 winners again against City, in a game in which saw Boyce make a superhuman clearance at the end of the game to keep The Latics in front.

He may be getting on numerically, but physically, he is staying stubbornly fit. Last season, at the age of 34, Boyce was involved in the most games he had ever played in one season, bar two seasons over a decade ago. Those 38 games covered the whole of England, and some of Europe. In today’s game, 29 is considered old, the age when your legs start to go, but Boyce has shattered this perception.

An international career is also still there for Boyce. He is the captain of the Barbados national team, despite only making four appearances. The captaincy was also only an honour bestowed upon him in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Again, a pointer that Boyce still has an abundance of quality.

When you look at the number of games Boyce has played in his career, you would be forgiven for being surprised he is still going. In all 16 of his professional seasons, Boyce has only failed to play over 20 games once. A lot of players playing at that sort of rate would have burnt out many years back. But the Barbadian has shown amazing fitness, and an incredible work ethic to keep himself in the best physical condition, which is why he will continue to shine this season.
