Wimbledon v Shrewsbury (League 2)

Adebayo AkinfenwaAs League 2 grows ever more competitive, these two sides look set to make a real fist of things at the right end of the table this season. Wimbledon manager Neil Ardley had to make some tough decisions over the summer releasing Jack Midson, Will Antwi and Peter Sweeney amongst others: in short some very solid League 2 players. In have come, Matt Tubbs and Adebayo Akinfenwa to add goals to the side whilst Sean Rigg and Dannie Bulman have also joined to make this squad look capable and exciting. Shrewsbury manager Micky Mellon has put the onus on recruiting attack talent this summer, following relegation from League 1. James Collins, Scott Vernon and, impressively, Ashley Vincent have joined the club which suggests that Mellon has his eyes on an immediate return to their third tier of English football. Whatever happens throughout the course of the season, this game is set to be extremely interesting – there’s more than enough attacking talent on show for there to be an onslaught of goals and both Wimbledon and Shrewsbury will be keen to put a marker down early on in their respective campaigns.

Player to watch out for: Matt Tubbs, Wimbledon – 31-year-old Tubbs will hope to flourish on his return to League 2 action, after impressing during his last spell at this level with Crawley and, alongside Akinfenwa, he could easily net 20+ goals this season.

Prediction: Both of these are outsiders for the top seven and will want to start to well, so expect a feisty encounter with plenty for both sets of fans to reflect on. The Dons should have the edge: 3-2
