QPR defender joins Kilmarnock on season-long loan deal

Queens Park Rangers defender Niko Hamalainen has joined the Ladbrokes Premiership’s bottom club Kilmarnock on a season-long loan deal according to BBC Sport.

The 22-year-old Finland international defender has made just six senior appearances for QPR since joining the club as a scholar from American side FC Dallas in 2014.

With Hamalainen remaining out of favour with The R’s early this season, it has been reported that the player has been sent out on loan to Kilmarnock. The youngster will spend the remainder of the season at Rugby Park as Killie look to recover from a difficult start to the new campaign in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Hamalainen endured a testing 2018/2019 campaign which saw him make just two Carabao Cup appearances for QPR before he was loaned out to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Los Angeles on a six-month loan deal. The temporary move away from Loftus Road last season was the second of his career with the player having also spent time with Dagenham & Redbridge during their English Football League days.

Kilmarnock manager Angelo Alessio could hand Hamalainen his debut for the club when they welcome Aberdeen to Rugby Park in the Ladbrokes Premiership on Saturday. Killie have lost both of their opening two matches, meaning that they are the only side not to pick up a point in the league so far.
