QPR maintain interest in 22-year-old free agent

According to French journalist Loic Tanzi, Championship side Queens Park Rangers still hold an interest in 22-year-old free agent defender Albert Redondo, who is still without a club after his release from Spanish side Getafe CF earlier this summer.

Earlier in the summer transfer window, we reported here on The72 that Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Charlton Athletic were interested in Albert Redondo – a 22-year-old Spanish defender who is available on a free transfer after his departure from Getafe CF at the end of last season.

Now, it has been said that Queens Park Rangers are still interested in Redondo, with a number of sides from France also said keen. The likes of Montpellier, Lille OSC and Saint-Ettienne are all interested in a deal for Redondo and Stade Brest are reportedly in talks over a possible deal for the defender.

Getafe had attempted to keep him at the club by offering him a new contract earlier this year, but Redondo decided to reject the approach and move elsewhere in search of more first-team football and regular game time. He played just once for the club’s senior team since coming through the academy. The left-back was left to play most of his football for the club in the b-team, featuring in defensive midfield on occasion as well.

As a free agent, Redondo will be hoping to find a new club soon with the new season underway. It will be interesting to see if he makes the move to any of the multiple French clubs said keen or if QPR can pull off a deal.
