Middlesbrough not one of three Championship clubs bidding for ‘£10m’ Peterborough star

In news carried by the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh’s director of football Barry Fry has laughed off reports that Middlesbrough are aiming to sign striker Ivan Toney.

Whilst pouring scorn on Boro having made a bid for Toney, Fry did admit that three other Championship clubs “are chasing” the 23-year-old striker who was signed from Newcastle United last summer for a fee in the region of £500,000.

With rumours building that Middlesbrough were sniffing around, Fry has come out in his typical bellicose manner to refute the growing clamour. fry told the Telegraph: “Three Championship clubs have bid for Ivan, but we’ve turned them all down. Middlesbrough are not one of those clubs.

He then went on to add: “One of the clubs has made three bids and the other two have made one bid each, but essentially Ivan is not for sale, unless someone offers us silly money, like £10 million!

Toney opened his account for the London Road outfit at the weekend, scoring their only goal in a somewhat disjointed Peterborough performance leading to a 3-1 loss at home to Fleetwood Town. last season, his first at the club, Toney was on fire, scoring 23 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions.

16 of those goals came in the league, underlining the vital importance that goalscorers represent for a side. With good strikers hard to come by, it is clear that Peterborough will want to hold on to the talented Toney. However, the double edge to the sword is that goalsequals interest and it is clear that this interest won’t subside before Thursday’s 5 p.m. transfer deadline.
