Derby Set To Sign Real Madrid Youngster

Derby County are in talks to sign Real Madrid midfielder Omar Mascarell on a season long loan, with the deal to be confirmed imminently.

Mascarell, 21, is a holding midfielder known for his passing ability as well as his skill at protecting the back four. Born in Tenerife, he has spent his entire senior career at the Bernabeu, although all but one of his appearances came for the B and C teams.

The youngster’s arrival will create depth and competition for the defensive midfield position, with either John Eustace or Will Hughes previously expected to start against Rotherham this Saturday. All of this stems from the severe knee injury sustained by new 3 million pound man George Thorne, and Derby fans who were previously crestfallen at the news of his injury will now feel satisfied that Derby have strength in the position.

Mascarell’s arrival may well end Derby’s transfer dealings for the Summer, although Connor Sammon could still potentially leave following the arrival of Leon Best on loan.
