Jack Whatmough – Portsmouth
Along with Jed Wallace and others at the club, Jack Whatmough will be a crucial part of Portsmouth’s renaissance that could begin this season. After establishing himself in the starting eleven at the end of the season, Whatmough signed a new deal until 2017 before taking part in his first England under-18’s match against Croatia, all before his 18th birthday.
He should be a regular for the South Coast side this season, he’s a stocky lad and he still has plenty of time to grow as a central defender. He has a good leap, a strong header, good positional awareness and has shown his comfort on the ball whilst deputising in midfield. The only thing that might hold him back is his pace has suffered a little but that can be improved as he grows into his frame and when he does, he could be a defender to keep an eye on.
