Peterborough United’s offer accepted for highly sought after Oldham Athletic star

A report from Football Insider has claimed that League One side Peterborough United have had an offer of £600,000 plus add-ons accepted for Oldham Athletic’s young defender George Edmundson.

It has been heavily reported over the past few months that Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson has been attracting significant transfer interest from a number of sides in England and Scotland.

Scottish giants Rangers have had bids for Edmundson rejected already, with Championship trio Preston North End, Hull City and Stoke City have all been credited with interest in the centre-back. League One duo Sunderland and Fleetwood Town have also been linked, with Peterborough United also keen.

Amid the interest, it was claimed that the 21-year-old has handed in a transfer request to try and push through a move away from Boundary Park.

Now, it has been claimed that it is The Posh who have edged ahead of the chasing pack, with a bid for Edmundson reportedly accepted.

The development will come as a significant blow to Steven Gerrard’s transfer plans. with Gareth McAuley out of contract and Joe Worrall returning to Nottingham Forest, Rangers are in the market for a new centre-back to fill the gap, with Edmundson one of their priority targets. And if they want to continue their pursuit of the youngster, the Ibrox side will have to equal or better Posh’s offer.

The 21-year-old played 54 games in all competitions this season, starring in Oldham’s backline over the course of the season, scoring two goals and laying on five assists along the way.

A move to London Road with Posh would see Edmundson become Posh’s seventh signing of the summer. He would arrive to seemingly fill the gap left by the departed Ryan Tafazolli as the club look to push for promotion in the 2019/20 season.
