Bristol City have announced on their club website that manager Lee Johnson has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has signed a new four-year deal with the club, taking his contract through to the end of the 2022/23 season.

Since delving into management, Johnson has been in charge of Oldham Athetic, Barnsley and Bristol City. He took over the managerial reigns at Ashton Gate in 2016 and has since managed the club to Championship safety an helped them a i=hieve top half finishes since.

He also guided the Robins to an EFL Cup semi-final, defeating Manchester United and only falling short when drawn up against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City – who praised Johnson heavily after the games.

Speaking to BBC, Johnson said:

“It was very, very simple for me right from the start because I’ve been quite vocal about wanting to stay.

“I’ve made no secret of my ambitions – both personal and professional – but that ideally will be with Bristol City. This contract really cements that and shows everybody else it’s not just words.

“I can’t promise anything other than blood, sweat, tears and work rate, but at the same time I’m confident in the decision-making process and I believe in the players.”
