Portsmouth ready to move for Birmingham City winger

Portsmouth are preparing to make a move for Birmingham City’s Viv Solomon-Otabor according to a report from Portsmouth.co.uk.

While the 23-year-old played for both Hampton and Richmond Borough and Crystal Palace as a youngster, he made his breakthrough at Birmingham. He has made 33 appearances for the Blues since breaking through though he has been out on loan to teams such as Oxford United, Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool. This season, he headed out on loan to Portsmouth and played well for them in the second half of the season, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.

Now that Portsmouth’s status in Sky Bet League One has been confirmed after a heartbreaking defeat to Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals, they are looking to sign players who will make sure that they do get promoted next season. And as they were happy with Solomon-Otabor’s performances while he was at Portsmouth, they are wanting to make a move for him this summer.

But this will all depend on Solomon-Otabor’s future at Birmingham. His contract is going to expire this summer and he has been offered a new one-year deal by Birmingham. However, he is yet to accept that offer as he is weighing up his future and may decide to leave in order to get more first team football and not get loaned out again. If Solomon-Otabor decides to leave the club this summer, Portsmouth are very keen to see him return and will make a contract offer. But for now they will have to wait on his decision on if he will stay at Birmingham or not.
