Lee Johnson reveals Bristol City have lodged offer for Chelsea left-back

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed that the Championship club have lodged a transfer offer for Chelsea left-back Jay Dasilva, who has spent the season on loan at Ashton Gate.

Chelsea defender Jay Dasilva joined Bristol City on loan prior to the start of the 2018/19 Championship season and had an impressive stint with the club. The youngster played 32 games in all competitions for the club, providing three assists along the way.

Now, the Robins are looking to bring Dasilva back to the club, lodging a permanent offer for the Chelsea youngster.

Bristol City are in the market for a new left-back after it was confirmed that Lloyd Kelly had left the club to join Premier League side Bournemouth for a big money fee. And, Lee Johnson’s side are not looking to waste any time in their search for a replacement.

Speaking on the Sound of the City radio show on Monday night, Johnson revealed that an offer is on the table for Dasilva.

“We’re in constant discussions with Jay and his agent and we’re quite relaxed on it because you can’t force a player to do something that he doesn’t want to do,” said Johnson (quotes via Bristol Live).

“And it’s not that he doesn’t want to do it, it’s just that it’s got to be right.

“For a player like Jay to commit to Bristol City is something that I believe would be the right move for him. But at the same time it’s got to be right for all parties.

“We’re all ambitious and Jay’s ambitious as well as a football player and hopefully the club will fulfil that ambition and he’ll end up at Bristol City.”

Johnson went on to add that they will wait around forever for left-back Dasilva, but reiterated that he believes Ashton Gate is a good place for the England youngster to develop.

“Yeah, there will be (a time constraint) because it can’t go on forever.

“But at the same time, the ball is in Jay’s court. We’ve made a good offer to him and his representative. And I know that he’s mulling it over in a positive light.

“He’s just met up with the England U21 squad of which he’s captain there, and he’s going into a big tournament with the U21s. Rightly so that his focus has to be on that but also his future.

“I don’t know but I’m confident in the conversations that we’re having that Jay believes that the football club is the right place to develop him.”
