Top 50 Players of the EFL – 2nd: Pablo Hernandez (Leeds United)

Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez has been voted by you as the 2nd best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Hernandez is the 2nd best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

One of the stories of the season has been Marcelo Bielsa for sure. He has been a fantastic manager for Leeds and them losing in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs shouldn’t mean we forget how well he has done. While they did bring in some good players, what Bielsa did best was make previous signings into something special. Mateusz Klich was on his way out of Leeds before Bielsa made him into a great midfielder. But it is perhaps Hernandez who improved the most.

While he was never terrible since making his loan move from Qatari side Al-Arabi SC permanent, he wasn’t a player many other people outside of the Leeds fanbase had noticed. But this year he was something else. He was devastating to a number of Championship defences and you can credit a lot of their form, especially in the first half of the season, to Hernandez being able to unpick back fours at will. In this fantastic season for the former Spanish international he was able to make 41 appearances and scored 12 goals in those matches.
