Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Sharp is the 4th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

It’s something to be a fan favourite. To have the fans chanting your name, to see your name on shirts heading into the stadium and be generally beloved by all is a special feeling and quite a few footballers and claim to have it. But there is a step above being a fan favourite. That is being an icon. To have all of the above but to also have fans hail you as a legend, to have pints bought for you by any fan that spots you in the pub and to have an open invitation to return whenever you decide to that leave the club.

Sharp is that icon for Sheffield United. He was a fan favourite during his first spell at the club and then was elevated when he returned to help them finally get out of Sky Bet League Two after a six-year malaise in that division. And after a year of being stuck being a rotation player, Sharp reclaimed his first-team spot this year and was a fantastic striker as he got them to the Premier League. In this stunning season he scored 24 goals in 42 appearances.
