Peterborough United keen on reunion with Portsmouth shot-stopper

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that Peterborough United are keen on a reunion with Portsmouth goalkeeper Luke McGee this summer.

Luke McGee has spent most of this season with Portsmouth playing second fiddle to Craig MacGillivray. Now, he is being linked with a summer move to fellow League One side Peterborough United.

Nixon tweeted the news on Sunday morning (see below).

McGee spent a season on loan with Peterborough United in the 2016/17 campaign, playing 45 games and keeping 10 clean sheets. The Posh are in the market for a new goalkeeper after they placed Aaron Chapman – the club’s number one for the majority of the season – on the transfer list.

Conor O’Malley has had a one-year extension triggered in his contract, making him the club’s only senior ‘keeper (if Chapman departs).

McGee came through the youth academy at Premier League side Spurs, who he joined back in 2012. He made no first-team appearances for Spurs before making a loan move to Posh, where he made his professional debut.

After a successful spell at London Road, The 23-year-old made a permanent move to Portsmouth, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal at Fratton Park. McGee was a mainstay in the Pompey side during the 2017/18 season, playing in 50 games across all competitions.

The shot-stopper’s game time this season has been limited, however. The arrival of Craig MacGillivray from Shrewsbury Town has succumbed McGee to a place on the bench, restricting him to just five appearances this season, keeping two clean sheets along the way.
