34-goal striker linked with Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Hull City likely to leave current club

Over the course of 2019, Championship trio Nottingham Forest, Swansea City and Hull City have all been linked with summer moves for Ayr United hotshot Lawrence Shankland.

League One promotion chasers Sunderland and League Two outfit Oldham Athletic have been linked with ambitious moves for the Scottish striker, who boasts a stunning goal record of 34 goals in 40 games across all competitions this season.

Now, speaking ahead of Ayr’s play-off clash with Inverness CT, the club’s chairman Lachlan Cameron admitted that it is highly likely that Shankland will leave the club in the upcoming summer transfer window, even if they win promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

“We won’t stand in his way,” Cameron said (quotes via Nottinghamshire Live)

“He’s done well by us and we’re prepared to back him and I think it’s only a good thing for us as a club.

“If we want to be able to attract players like Lawrence we need to help them eventually get to a higher level.

“If we can continue that steady stream of talented players coming to us at the start of their careers then the better chance we have of moving forward as a club.

“And once we’re in a stronger position we’ll have more of a chance of holding on to players like Lawrence. But right now we’re not in a position to do that.”

In the 2017/18 campaign, the Ayr forward scored 27 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions. He is also an efficient provider, following up his 16 assists of last season with another eight this term.
