Barnsley and Sunderland keen on ex-Cardiff City defender

Barnsley and Sunderland are keen on a summer move for AFC Wimbledon defender Deji Oshilaja.

The 26-year-old looks set to leave the League One side next month when his contract expires and is a man in-demand, according to a report by HITC Sport.

Barnsley are looking to bolster their squad following their promotion to the Championship last week. Daniel Stendel’s side could boost their defence by landing Oshilaja on a free transfer.

Sunderland’s chances of landing the centre-half will probably depend on whether they are promoted via the League One Play-Offs over the next couple of weeks. Wimbledon’s third tier rivals Fleetwood Town have also been credited with an interest in their skipper.

Oshilaja, who was born in London, joined Wimbledon in June 2017 and has been a key player for them over the past two seasons.

He started his career at Cardiff City of whom he joined at the age of 16. He made his senior debut for the Bluebirds in August 2012 in a League Cup game against Northampton Town and went onto play once more for the Welsh side the Cup versus Macclesfield Town.

Oshilaja gained plenty of first-team experience out on loan during his time at the Cardiff City Stadium with the likes of Newport County, Sheffield Wednesday and Gillingham.

He has since found a home at Wimbledon but looks to be on his way this summer. Will he end up at one of Barnsley, Sunderland or Fleetwood?
