Top 50 Players of the EFL – 46th: Alan Browne (Preston North End)

Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne has been voted by you as the 46th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Browne is the 46th best player in the Football League. He has moved down 15 places from his 31st place on this list last year.

It’s amazing that Preston have been able to keep Browne a secret for this long. While he started in the Republic of Ireland with Cork City, he feels like a Preston player through and through and is getting close to making 200 appearances and should he stay, he will probably break through that total next season. And while he probably won’t leave due to him being one of the best-kept secrets in the Sky Bet Championship, other teams should probably be looking at him considering how consistent he has been for the Lilywhites.

Even though Preston finished in a lower position last season, it can be argued that Browne was even better this year than he was last year. Yes he may be lower on the list this year but he was able to score more goals in less appearances this time, scoring 12 goals in 41 appearances. And even if you don’t talk about his goals, he has been a maestro in midfield for Preston and is the reason that team ticks. The Lancashire side will hope their best-kept secret stays like that for a bit longer.
