Martin O’Neill left to rue missed chances as Nottingham Forest suffer Blackburn Rovers defeat

Nottingham Forest manager Martin O’Neill has said that he knows what changes he needs to make to his side in the upcoming transfer window after his side suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers.

Martin O’Neill was left far from impressed with the number of chances his Nottingham Forest side missed against Blackburn Rovers in their 2-1 loss at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Blackburn’s Joe Rothwell and Danny Graham put Forest 2-1 down with 49 minutes on the clock. An own goal from Elliott Bennett gave Forest some hope, but they failed to pull off a comeback and Tony Mowbray’s side left with all three points.

Speaking to the media afterwards (quotes via Nottingham Forest’s club website), O’Neill said:

“We had some glorious chances out there today and we spurned all bar one of them. They scored with their first opportunity of the game but we should have then gone on to put it out of their reach.

“Ruthlessness in both boxes is very important and we could have won a number of games with the chances we had today but we spurned a lot of them. You can’t spend ten or 15 minutes doing really well in a game and then let them score the opening goal.”

The Northern Irishman went on to add that he will be looking at bringing in some new faces in certain areas over the course of the summer transfer window.

“There will be a number of areas to address in the summer because I don’t want this to become a recurring theme next season. I now most definitely have ideas of the changes that need to be made over the next few months and through the summer.

“We have got some talent here at this football club which needs nurturing and I wouldn’t like to see players with natural ability go to other clubs and we will need to supplement this squad with new signings in the summer.”
