Leeds United striker prioritizing promotion push by putting international allegiance switch on hold

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has said that he is putting his international allegiance switch on hold as he looks to help the club win promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is set expected to complete an international allegiance switch to the Republic of Ireland. But, he has revealed that he is putting a final decision on hold as he looks to focus solely on Leeds’ promotion bid.

Bamford qualifies to play for the Republic of Ireland and has only represented England at youth level. Speaking to LUTV, the striker revealed that he has held talks with Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy, but he will be focusing on the remainder of the club season.

“I spoke to Mick and I just said to him that I have been injured for a big part of the season and not been able to help Leeds the way I would have wanted to until this point,” Bamford stated

“Now it is important to concentrate on my club and try and get us back to the Premier League.

“I said to him I will sit down and have a chat with you after the season’s finished and then we can have a proper chat. That’s how we left there.”

As Bamford mentioned, he is determined to help the club return to the top flight after a long spell out through injury. The former Middlesbrough man has come back into the starting eleven in the absence of Kemar Roofe and he is hoping that he can add to his six-goal tally before the end of the season.
