Former Swansea City midfielder wanted by Canadian side

Former Swansea City midfielder Alejandro Pozeulo is wanted by Toronto FC.

The Spaniard currently plays in Belgium for Genk but could be set for a move to the Major League Soccer, according to the Toronto Star.

Pozuelo played for the now Championship side Swansea in the 2013/14 season, a campaign in which the Welsh side competed in both the Premier League and Europa League. He played 36 games in all competitions for the Swans.

However, he left the Liberty Stadium after just a year to move back to Spain for Rayo Vallecano before moving onto Genk after a single season in La Liga.

Pozuelo has since played over 150 games for Genk and is a key player for them. He is keen on a move to the MLS now though and is interested in a move to Toronto.

The Canadian side have a free designated player spot in which they want Pozuelo to fill. The 2019 MLS season starts on Saturday and Toronto’s kick off their campaign against Philadelphia Union.

The transfer window in America shuts in May meaning they have time in their pursuit of Pozeulo but will want the deal done sooner rather than later.

Toronto, who won the MLS Cup in 2017, had a poor season last year and will be looking to do better this time around. Former Hull City and Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore and ex-Aston Villa loanee Michael Bradley are their current key men but former Swansea man Pozuelo is firmly on their radar.
