Hull City target set to sign for Wigan Athletic

Aberdeen midfielder Graeme Shinnie is set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Wigan Athletic, according to the Evening Express.

The 27-year-old has been linked with fellow Championship side Hull City over recent weeks as well as other EFL sides like Brentford and Sunderland but it looks like Wigan have won the race for him.

Shinnie is out of contract at the end of the season and Aberdeen are desperate to keep hold of him. However, it appears his heart is set on a move to England now to test himself.

He has four caps for Scotland to his name and made his debut for his country last May in a game against Peru. His brother, Andrew, plays for League One side Luton Town.

Shinnie, who can also play as a left-back if needed, has played over 350 games so far in his career and they have all come in Scotland.

He started out at Inverness Caledonian Thistle as a youngster and had a brief loan stint at Forres Mechanics in 2010 in the Scottish Highland League. On his return to Inverness, Shinnie went onto establish himself in their first-team and played 187 games for them in total.

Shinnie captained Inverness to their Scottish Cup triumph in 2015, prior to his switch to Aberdeen. He has since been a key player for the Dons but now looks set for a new chapter with Wigan, who are set to snap him up on a pre-contract agreement.

The Latics are getting busy in this transfer window and have been linked with Nottingham Forest’s Danny Fox and West Brom’s Conor Townsend.
