Scunthorpe United want to sign talented Rotherham United midfielder Matty Palmer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

League One side Scunthorpe United want to sign talented Rotherham United midfielder Matty Palmer.

Matty Palmer is rated very highly at Rotherham United, but hasn’t been give much game time this season and could be on his way to Scunthorpe United.

Scunthorpe United have already  taken their total of January signings to five by bringing in defenders Byron Webster, Tony McMahon and Harrison McGahey as well as attackers Adam Hammill and Kevin Van Veen.

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne claimed Matty Palmer still had a role to play at Rotherham United even with his lack of game time and he told The Star“I really like Matty and what we brought him in for, it worked.”

“He came in in January and after he got into the team he was a big part of us going up, he helped us collect a lot of points.”

“This year he hasn’t had as much game-time, but in fairness our two best performances at home he played in both.”

“So I haven’t lost any love or respect for him, it’s just the others have done really well.”

Matty Palmer’s frustration was shown during the 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough last month when Paul Warne didn’t even bring him on and opted for another option.

Paul Warne explained: “If it was a game where we were 1-0 up and we needed control of the ball and tempo I would have put Matty on, it was just the fact that I don’t compare them like-for-like, they are different players for different situations.”

“I do like Matty and once he gets in the team he will be difficult to shrug.”
