Chesterfield turn down Leeds bid for Cooper; Leeds launch second bid

Chesterfield have turned down a bid from Leeds United for Liam Cooper the clubs official twitter has confirmed which is reportedly an ‘undisclosed six figure bid’.

The fee believed to be in the region of £400,000 has seen Leeds move for the 22-year-old centre back. With Chesterfield recently lining up against Leeds in a pre-season friendly, Cooper featured in the game against the Championship club and caught the eye of the West-Yorkshire club.

With Leeds still keen to recruit before the season opener to Millwall, Cooper would be brought in as a defensive reinforcement however Chesterfield seem keen to hold on to one of their star defenders before the season begins.

UPDATE Leeds have upped there bid for Cooper, YEP Journalist Phil Hay reports that Leeds have bid £475,000.
