Portsmouth anticipate winger’s return from injury against The Brewers

Sky Bet League One leaders Portsmouth expect to have on loan Queens Park Rangers winger David Wheeler available for selection when they welcome Burton Albion to Fratton Park on Tuesday evening according to The Portsmouth News.

The 28-year-old Brighton-born wideman has missed Pompey’s last three competitive fixtures with an ankle injury which he sustained during the shock 2-0 home defeat to Gillingham at the start of the month.

It has been reported that Wheeler is expected to be available for first team selection once again when Burton Albion are the visitors to Fratton Park on Tuesday evening. Should the winger be selected, he will attempt to help Portsmouth either maintain or improve their six-point cushion at the top of the Sky Bet League One table.

Wheeler joined Portsmouth on a season-long loan deal from QPR in early August. The player has made seven appearances for Pompey in all competitions while he scored his first goal for the club in the 4-0 win over Gillingham in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The winger started his career in non-league football with Lewes and Staines Town before being picked up by Exeter City. Wheeler made 170 appearances for The Grecians in which he scored 38 goals. He then joined QPR in summer 2017 but has found first team football hard to come by at Loftus Road.
