Wigan Athletic’s on loan Chelsea star wanted by Brighton & Hove Albion

Wigan Athletic loanee Reece James is wanted by English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion according to reports by SunSport.

The 18-year-old Redbridge-born full-back has impressed at the DW Stadium so far this season after joining The Latics on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

It has now been reported that scouts of Brighton & Hove Albion have been watching the player in action and have been impressed with what they have seen. It is thought that The Seagulls could submit a £10 million transfer offer to Chelsea for the player in either the January or summer transfer windows, although James’ parent club are thought to rate him highly and may not be particularly keen on a sale.

James has come through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge after joining Chelsea as a six-year-old. The former Chelsea academy Player of the Year has won the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League on two occasions with The Blues but is yet to make his senior debut for the club.

Sky Bet Championship club Wigan Athletic signed James in June on a season-long loan deal and the defender has quickly adapted to life in the second tier of English football. The England Under-20 international has made 13 appearances in all competitions for The Latics in which his side have kept five clean sheets.

James signed a new four-year contract with Chelsea in the summer and the club are unlikely to let the player go on the cheap.
