An updated five potential candidates for the Macclesfield Town job

Macclesfield Town are still in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Mark Yates last week. Here is an updated five potential candidates for the vacant post-

Neil Howarth/Danny Whittaker- They are both in caretaker charge and are still the favourites to land the full-time role. The duo know the club inside out and will take the Silkmen’s game against Carlisle United at the Moss Rose tomorrow.

Jay Saunders- He was heavily linked with the Macc job in the summer when John Askey left for Shrewsbury Town. Mark Yates got it at his expense but Saunders is being mentioned once again. He is now available after leaving National League side Maidstone United at the end of August after seven years in charge there.

Darren Ferguson- He is a surprise new name to be in the running for the job. The former Peterborough United, Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers boss is out of work at the moment and will be looking to get back into the game.

Michael Brown- The former Port Vale boss is also in the frame for the Silkmen. The 41-year-old played 650 games in his playing days and is looking for another chance as a manager after being sacked by the Valiants in September 2017.

Steve Davis- The 53-year-old did an impressive job at Crewe Alexandra and won the Football League Trophy as well as promotion to League One during his time there. His most recent spell at Leyton Orient did not work out but a potential return to Cheshire could get his career back on track.
