Derby County set to be missing young stars for EFL Cup clash with Chelsea

Frank Lampard’s request to use loan stars Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori in Derby County’s EFL Cup match against Chelsea has been rejected, according to the Evening Standard.

Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori joined Derby County on loan from Chelsea this summer, and Frank Lampard asked his former club Chelsea and his opponents in the next round of the Carabao Cup if he could field Tomori and Mount in their clash later in October.

Mount and Tomori have both made good impressions early on this season, playing 10 and 11 Championship games respectively. Mount’s form has resulted in the youngster being called up to the England senior team for the upcoming International matches against Croatia and Spain.

When Frank Lampard was asked about the situation, he said:

“For their careers, it will be great development but from the Chelsea side they want to win the game, just as we do. I will respect their decision whatever it is.”

Mount has played an important role in helping The Rams progress to the Fifth Round of the Carabao Cup, scoring twice in three games. Tomori has also picked up a goal from defence in Derby’s road to the Fifth Round, keeping clean sheets against Oldham Athletic and Hull City as well.
