Sheffield United defender joins Chesterfield on season-long loan

Sheffield United defender Jake Bennett has joined Chesterfield on loan, as confirmed by the Blades’ official club website.

The 22-year-old will spent the rest of the season with the National League side to gain some first-team experience.

Sheffield United have been keen to get their youngsters out on loan to play senior football this season. The likes of Rhys Norrington-Davies (Barrow), Tyler Smith (Barrow), Regan Slater (Carlisle United), Harvey Gilmour (Tranmere Rovers) and Sam Graham (Oldham Athletic) are all getting some valuable experience under their belts.

The Blades are currently top of the Championship and have decent depth in their squad meaning loans for youngsters are being sanctioned by their manager, Chris Wilder, as one eye is on the future now.

Jake Bennett is the next to leave Bramall Lane on loan. Chesterfield were relegated from League Two last season and are currently 20th in the National League under Martin Allen. Bennett will be hoping to tighten up their defence and help them climb up the league table.

He joined Sheffield United from Mickleover Sports and made his senior debut for the Blades in a League Cup tie against Walsall in August 2017. Bennett was tipped for a bright future at the club but a serious knee injury ruled him out for much of last season.

He has fought his way back and has been a key for their Under-23’s in this campaign. Bennett now has the opportunity to get some regular football and get his career back on track with Chesterfield.
