One of the biggest surprises at Pride Park since Frank Lampard’s arrival as Derby County manager has been the emergence of youngster Jayden Bogle.
Bogle has played brilliantly in the early stages of the season for Derby County, taking the place of defender Andre Wisdom in Lampard’s starting eleven, and it doesn’t look like he will be surrendering his position any time soon.
The 18-year-old made his debut against Oldham Athletic in a 2-0 win in the First Round of the Carabao Cup, and made his first league start four days later in the Rams’ 2-1 loss against Millwall at The Den.
Being an academy graduate and an impressive young talent, Bogle has won the support of the Derby County faithful, and has been on the receiving end of floods of support throughout the early stages of the season.
Jayden Bogle is gonna be one hell of a RB, the most naturally gifted academy player since Will Hughes. Rare these days you a get a full back who can defend as well as get forward, but he can do both. He’ll continue to get better too. #dcfc

Upon making his debut, Frank Lampard gathered his squad and rewarded Bogle’s emergence with a place in the first team dressing room, giving him gleaming review of the defender’s start to the season.

Despite his youth, Bogle is a confident player, able both going forward and defending. The 18-year-old enjoys getting on the ball and taking players on as much as any other modern attacking full-back, but can also operate as a defensive full-back. Bogle averages 1.2 tackles per game, 1.8 fouls and 1.5 clearances every game (WhoScored.com), with a rating of 6.91 over the course of his seven games.
In Derby’s 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers last Tuesday, Bogle made more touches than any other player (92) during the tie, displaying confidence and maturity beyond his years.

In his emergence, Andre Wisdom has dropped to the bench after a slow start to the new campaign, and if the young defender’s good form continues then the former Liverpool man will struggle to make his way back into Lampard’s lineup.
Derby County fans have been calling for an England call-up for the youngster, and Bogle will be chasing a place in one of the Young Lions’ squads. England manager Gareth Southgate attended the Rams’ match with Blackburn last week, with his eyes on Mason Mount. However, Jayden Bogle’s strong performance could’ve caught the attention of Southgate as well.
Frank Lampard and Derby fans will be hoping that Bogle can continue his impressive growth and start to the season, and could be set to feature on the big stage against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night.
