Championship Team of the week – Matchday 8

It was another action-packed Championship matchday with many big results happening.

Stoke managed to get their second home win of the season with a 1-0 victory against Swansea, with a former Swan Joe Allen grabbing the only goal.

Two sides still remain winless in the Championship as both Ipswich and Birmingham drew in midweek.

Leeds United still remain top and remain unbeaten after they brushed aside Preston at Elland Road.

These are the best eleven players from the matchday eight according to WhoScored.com.

GK- Jack Butland [Stoke] – 7.93

He kept a clean sheet in Tuesday’s win. The win for Stoke was not just huge but was big because it was a rare clean sheet.

Butland took 42 touches on Tuesday and had a passing accuracy of 62.5% which is good going for a goalkeeper.

Defender – Mile Jedinak [Aston Villa] – 8.32

A clean sheet and a much-needed victory for Villa as they beat Rotherham.

He produced a commanding display at the back in particular with aerial duels.

He won 10 aerial challenges more than other player on Tuesday.

The good display didn’t stop as he was strong with his pass completion of 81.8%.

Defender – Joel Lynch [QPR] – 9.07

To have that high rating must say a lot about the Welshman’s performance against Millwall.

Playing alongside German Toni Leistner, it seems the revival is well and truly going great under Steve McClaren.

The partnership is blossoming as Lynch passing accuracy is lower than his partners, one thing that is better is the aerial duels which he has won significantly.

He won a staggering 16 challenges in the air and even laid on one key pass.

Defender – Pontus Jansson [Leeds United] – 8.07

One thing about Pontus Jansson whilst being at Leeds is the fact he is just so consistent.

The Swedish defender has performed astutely at Leeds under various different coaches during his time at the club.

He touched the ball 67 times throughout the 90 minutes against Preston as Bielsa certaintly looks like he is implementing his football on him.

Defender – Liam Cooper [Leeds United] – 8.83

The only defender on the list who scored, Cooper also is on here for a very dominant display at the back alongside Pontus Jansson.

As well as scoring he won vital challenges in the air and his statistics are very similar to that of Pontus Jansson.

Defender – Barry Douglas [Leeds United] – 8.13

It seems Barry Douglas can do no wrong at the moment at Leeds.

The key passes element of his game is very strong he made four more key ones versus Preston more than any other player for Leeds.

His passing accuracy was 81.5% another high and something of real note from the Left-back.

And he even grabbed an assist for one of Leeds’s goals too.

Midfielder – Massimo Luongo [QPR] – 8.49

Grabbed one of the goals that saw QPR beat Millwall 2-0 at Loftus Road.

The Australian had a night to remember.

Of any offensive he had the most touches with 53, just higher than Geoff Cameron.

His shooting was strong as he registered two shots on target, with one of them being a goal.

Midfielder – Harvey Barnes [West Bromwich Albion] – 9.47

He is a player seriously thriving at West Brom at the moment and the loan move from Leicester is doing absolute wonders for the midfielder.

He scored and grabbed two assists and laid on four key passes more than any one else on his side.

Forward – Tyler Roberts [Leeds United] – 8.93

With injuries to Roofe and Bamford, Leeds sought a replacement in young Tyler Roberts and Bielsa’s risky gamble paid off massively.

Two goals and a man of the match performance will be one for him to remember for years to come.

He had three shots on target throughout the match and managed to get two goals from those three on target, which is good going and shows he has a real action eye for goal.

Forward- Jay Rodriguez [West Bromwich Albion]- 8.12

Two goals for Rodriguez, with one coming from the penalty spot saw his side beat Bristol City 4-2.

All of his attempts were on target with four shots leading to two goals.

He also seems to be liking playing alongside Dwight Gayle too and those two have been devastating when they have played together this season.

Forward – Dwight Gayle [West Bromwich Albion] – 8.35

Gayle scored and an assist as he was massive in his sides win against Bristol City.

His passing accuracy was incredible as it was 93.8%.

He seems to also since he has gone to the Midlands, be linking more up with his teammates and contributing more off the ball work.
