Decimated Leeds United show a hint for future – early squad news

There is little doubt that when the referee’s whistle trills at just before 5p.m. tomorrow afternoon, Leeds United will have been in a war against Millwall. Win, lose, or draw – they will have been in a battle.

It was the Lions who put the skids under Leeds United’s bright start to last season; a similar season to this where they went on an impressive unbeaten start and topped the table. Last time out the Whites were ‘old-manned’ by Millwall, outfought and eventually defeated 1-0 in a game that set Leeds on a slide.

Depleted by injuries, missing the likes of Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Gaetano Berardi, it will be something of a makeshift side that will take on a Zlatan Morison inspired Millwall.

Whilst those four will be out of the reckoning, it is one young player that is definitely in the reckoning that is of interest to Leeds United fans.

In this still from his Instagram story, 17-year-old Ryan Edmondson indicates that he’s travelled with the first-team down for the match. With the Whites more than depleted up top, it seems a sensible move to take him as back-up to Tyler Roberts, who is tipped to replace the injured Roofe.

Powerfully built youngster Edmondson joined the Whites last season from fellow West Yorkshire side York City. Quickly establishing himself in Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s at Leeds United, the young striker was soon amongst the goals.

With Leeds United down to the barest of bare minimums, with the just-recovered-from-injury Tyler Roberts probably taking over the main striker spot, taking Ryan Edmondson as insurance cover makes perfect sense.
