Steve Bruce faces selection headache ahead of Villa’s trip to Ewood Park

Aston Villa’s under-fire manager Steve Bruce faces a selection headache ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Ewood Park.

The Villains are level on points with Blackburn Rovers, who will provide a stern test for a Villa side that are yet to hit their stride in the Sky Bet Championship.

Attacking duo Jack Grealish and Jonathan Kodjia both struggled in the recent defeat to Sheffield United, with the former in particular struggling to find form after a summer of speculation regarding his future.

The talented pair are now at risk of losing their places in the starting eleven ahead of tomorrow’s game, with two loanees waiting in the wings.

Winger Yannick Bolasie and striker Tammy Abraham were both plucked from the Premier League before the transfer window slammed shut and both could feature against Blackburn.

Tricky wideman Bolasie joined Everton for a reported £25m in 2016, but has seen his progress hindered by injury. Abraham arrived on Deadline Day having been deemed surplus to requirements by parent club Chelsea.

Bruce now has an array of attacking options at his disposal, with England Under-20 international Rushian Hepburn-Murphy also knocking on the door. Grealish and Kodjia, as well as Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Elmohamady, now face battles to retain their spots and many will be intrigued to see who the manager selects.

Villa sit in a mid-table position in 12th and know that a win against Blacburn will nudge them further up the table and keep them within touching distance of the top-six.
