“McPhillips has done really well since taking the role” – Blackpool fans react to the appointment of Terry McPhillips on a 12-month rolling deal

Blackpool have appointed Terry McPhillips as permanent manager on a 12-month rolling contract, confirmed by the club website.

Terry McPhillips took over Blackpool on an interim basis after Gary Bowyer left following the opening day draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

After losing his first game in charge, the 49-year-old has since led Blackpool on an eight-match unbeaten run.

Last weekend, Blackpool scored three times in the final six minutes to come from two goals down and beat Bradford 3-2 in David Hopkin’s first game in charge of the visitors.

The former Blackburn Rovers coach was brought to Bloomfield Road as Bowyer’s assistant in October 2017.

Among his achievements in caretaker charge are EFL Cup victories against Barnsley and Doncaster, setting up a match with Championship side QPR in the third round.

Terry McPhillips said: “It’s an offer I couldn’t turn down, becoming the manager of Blackpool, such a big club with lots of history. I’m delighted.”

“I’ve got to say a real, big thank-you to the staff and the players because the staff have really backed us and worked their socks off, and the players, just looking at Saturday’s game as an example, have shown the spirit and the camaraderie that we’ve got, and the close-knit unit that we are.”

“We’re eight unbeaten and that run helps. Some of the performances in that run have been superb and I’m just pleased this is done now because it takes a bit of a weight off everyone. We can now get focused and ready for Plymouth on Saturday.”
