Margate sign former Bristol City, Reading and Boro goal machine

Boston League Premier Division club Margate have completed the shock signing of former Bristol City, Reading and Middlesbrough forward Leroy Lita according to The Gate’s official website.

The 33-year-old Zaire-born frontman was without a club after leaving Thai League 1 outfit Sisaket following a short spell at the Sri Nakhon Lamduan Stadium.

It has now been confirmed that Lita has signed for Margate, a side who currently sit in the seventh tier of the English footballing pyramid. The former England Under-21 international striker is awaiting international clearance to make his debut for the Kent club but could feature for The Gate at Worthing in their Bostik League Premier Division fixture next weekend.

Lita started his career with Bristol City where he scored 38 goals in 100 appearances. The player’s excellent goalscoring form resulted in Reading paying a club-record £1 million fee to secure his services in summer 2005 and Lita completed another century of career appearances in Berkshire where he added 32 goals to his personal tally.

A move to Middlesbrough followed where he notched 20 goals before the player became something of a journeyman, featuring for several clubs both at home and abroad without really making a significant impact.

Lita averaged a goal less than every four games for his last club Sisaket but with the player having now dropped down into English non-league football, he will be hoping to return to more prolific form with Margate.
