Huge news as Leeds United youngster is new Northern Ireland number one

Baily Peacock-Farrell is the new Northern Ireland number one ahead of the UEFA Nations League and qualifying campaigns. The Leeds United youngster has had a remarkable rise to this moment in the last six months and deserves every bit of praise he has received and will receive.

Peacock-Farrell had every chance of earning the number one shirt for Northern Ireland at the start of this new campaign due to the alternatives quite simply not being as good as him. Both have more experience but Peacock-Farrell has been a key part of  the Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United revolution that has seen the club rise to the top of the Championship.

Peacock-Farrell wasn’t really expected to be the number one at Leeds this season when the club secured the services of Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman. As the now back-up keeper was playing for the under 23’s yesterday Peacock-Farrell was working towards the number one shirt with his country. Peacock-Farrell has lined up alongside Stuart Dallas in the side today as they take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first of the UEFA Nations League games.

Northern Ireland also have Austria in the group so it’s a big ask but one they will relish given their recent history. They won’t be expected to win the group but the challenge is one that they would normally rise to. Michael O’Neill did have a big decision to make between the sticks going forward and Baily Peacock-Farrell is the man he has chosen to do just that. It’s great news for the player and for Leeds United.
