Chelsea rejected a loan move by Derby County for Ethan Ampadu over the summer, according to talkSPORT.
The Rams’ boss is Frank Lampard if you didn’t know already. He tried to utilise his contacts with the London side to bring the highly-rated youngster to Pride Park for the season. However, the move was rebuffed by Chelsea which suggests he could play a part in their first-team in this campaign under Maurizzio Sarri.
Lampard did manage to bring in Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan from his former side and both have slotted in nicely into Derby’s starting eleven.
Signing Ethan Ampadu would have been even more impressive by Derby though. The 17-year-old had a great game last night for Wales in midfield as they beat Republic of Ireland 4-1 in Ryan Giggs’ first game in charge of his country.
Ampadu, who is 6ft, is comfortable in both midfield and defence. He was born in Exeter and represented England at U16 level before switching his allegiance to Welsh at U17 and U19 level. He was also eligible to play for Ghana and Republic of Ireland. He has since made 3 caps for Wales’ senior side.
Ampadu started his career at Exeter City and rose through the youth ranks of the League Two side. He made his debut for them aged just 15 in a League Cup tie against Championship side Brentford. The youngster then went onto play a further 12 games for the Grecians that season.
Chelsea then swooped to sign him in July 2017 and has since played 7 times for their first-team.
