Former Hull City transfer target joins FC Slovan Liberec in surprise loan move

Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has joined Czech top flight side FC Slovan Liberec on loan, as confirmed by their official club website.

The 22-year-old winger was linked with a move to Championship side Hull City in January and towards the end of the summer loan window.

Aarons started his career at Bristol City before moving to Newcastle United in 2012. He helped the Magpies gain promotion to the Premier League in 2017 after being part of Rafa Benitez’s side who won the Championship title.

However, his first-team chances with the North-East side were limited in the Premier League last season so he was shipped out on loan to Hellas Verona for the latter part of the campaign, where he played 11 games.

He will now be looking forward to the next chapter of his career with FC Slovan Liberec. They finished 6th last season and have won the league three times so far in their history.

Aarons could be the one who got away from Hull City but they will be pleased with the business they did on deadline day by bringing in Tommy Elphick from Aston Villa and Chris Martin from Derby County, both on season-long loan deals.

The fact that Kamil Grosicki stayed with the club as well after turning down a move to Turkish side Bursaspor despite flying out there means that Hull may not have needed Aarons anyway.
