Squad numbers announced for Middlesbrough’s three new signings

Middlesbrough announced the new signings of Sam McQueen, Danny Batth and George Saville in the last days of the loan window, and all three have since been given squad numbers.

The three signings have now been given squad numbers for the season, announced via Middlesbrough’s official website, and they will be hoping to be feature in the match day squad for next weeks’ clash at Norwich City.

Danny Batth, who was signed from Wolves, has been given the number six shirt, which was vacated by Ben Gibson. The former-Boro captain joined Burnley earlier in the transfer window, and the squad number could suggest Batth is to play an important role in Middlesbrough’s season going forwards.

The defender was signed on loan to provide competition for the likes of Dani Ayala, Dael Fry and Aden Flint, and his experience will stand him in good stead going forwards, having captained Wolves to the Championship title last season.

Sam McQueen will wear the number 14 after arriving from Southampton on a season-long loan deal, and George Saville, signed from Millwall, will wear number 22.

Both players will add strength in depth to the current Middlesbrough side, with McQueen competing with George Friend at left-back, and Saville having plenty of players to budge in central midfield if he is to get a starting berth in the middle of the park.

Adam Clayton, Jonny Howson, Paddy McNair, Muhamed Besic and Lewis Wing are the current crop competing, and Saville is another name to add to the mix.

Both McQueen and Batth have trained with Middlesbrough this week for the first time, but George Saville is currently away on international duty with Northern Ireland.
